Lean Six Sigma White Belt

There are no formalised competencies for Lean Six Sigma White Belt as it is an awareness program for Lean Six Sigma that will introduce the basics to the organisation.

White Belt participants will be introduced to the tools and techniques used to:
  • Minimize waste and resources while increasing customer satisfaction
  • Design, deploy & project manage an enterprise-wide Six Sigma process
  • Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control (DMAIC) processes
but will generally not be required to use any of the tools and techniques in their role or job description.

Lean Six Sigma Competencies Home Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt

Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt

Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt competencies are not included in the ISO18404 International Standard. Yellow Belt competencies have been developed by the AOQ and cover:
  • Describe the Value of Lean Six Sigma
  • Identify LEAN principles
  • Utilize DMAIC – Define
  • Utilize DMAIC – Measure
  • Utilize DMAIC – Analyse
  • Utilize DMAIC – Improve
  • Utilize DMAIC – Control

Performance Criteria and an evidence guide for all Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt competencies deliver the requirements to be certified at Yellow Belt Level. A Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt participant does not need to complete a project but it is ideal for team members within a Lean Six Sigma project to be at Yellow Belt Level.

Typically, a demonstration of knowledge within Lean Six Sigma is the level of evidence required to display competency. Evidence would include:
  • Demonstrate the impact that six sigma has on businesses operations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the origins of Six Sigma
  • Identify KPIs that are important for an organisation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the SMART
  • Describe and define the roles and responsibilities of participants in Lean Six Sigma
  • Define and apply team tools
  • Develop and review process maps, written procedures, work instructions, flowcharts
  • Use tools such as a SIPOC
  • Define methods for collecting data and collect data
  • Demonstrate an understanding of graphical techniques
  • Understand methods such as cause and effect, fishbone diagrams etc
  • Understand how to use simple Lean Six Sigma tools such as brainstorming etc.

A Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt must demonstrate the ability to teach, facilitate, and communicate effectively, including coaching and mentoring to successful completion of projects. This is achieved through being

  • Technically proficient with process improvement concepts and advanced tools
  • Strong in analytic and problem-solving skills; the ability to recommend alternative solutions and translate complex concepts into simplified and understandable examples
  • Ability to quickly understand a Black Belt’s or Green Belt’s projects and provide guidance/direction for next steps

Certificate issued upon the completion of the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course and completion of open book examination and in house Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project to a competent level.

Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt
Certificate issued upon the completion of the Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt course and completion of open book examination and required submission of evidence of running a Lean Six Sigma Program to a competent level.
